Before You Go

Day 1 Arrival — Settle In Saturday, April 4

Land, drop bags, shake off travel. Don't overdo it — altitude hits harder when you're tired.

    Patio dinner in Condesa dog ✓ El Parnita or any spot with outdoor seating. Most Condesa patios welcome dogs.

Day 2 Centro Histórico Sunday, April 5

The beating heart of the city — colonial grandeur, Aztec ruins, and the best street food.

    Zócalo — the main square Metropolitan Cathedral, the palace exterior. Just walking it is impressive.

    Templo Mayor Actual Aztec ruins excavated right in the middle of the city. Wild.
  • 🎨
    Palacio Nacional — Diego Rivera murals Free to enter. The murals are floor-to-ceiling and cover all of Mexican history.
  • 🥗
    Mercado de San Juan for lunch Indoor market with great seafood, cheese, international food.
  • 🏟️
    Palacio de Bellas Artes (exterior) Stunning Art Deco building. Worth a photo and a stroll.
🐾 Dog: bring in a carrier or leave at home — this day is busy and indoor-heavy.
Day 3 Chapultepec + Polanco Monday, April 6

World-class park, world-class museum. Easiest day for the dog.

    Bosque de Chapultepec dog ✓ Huge forested park — a Mexican Central Park. Morning walk with the dog, then split up.

    Museo Nacional de Antropología don't miss One of the best museums in the world. The Aztec sun stone alone is worth it. Split up — one person stays with dog on the grounds.

    Chapultepec Castle Views of the whole city. Fascinating history — it was Mexico's imperial palace.
  • 🍷
    Dinner in Polanco Upscale neighborhood a short walk from the park. Great for a nicer meal.
Day 4 Coyoacán — Frida Kahlo Country Tuesday, April 7

Bohemian, colonial, and incredibly walkable. The neighborhood itself is the attraction.

    Mercado de Coyoacán dog ✓ Eat everything: tostadas, quesadillas, fresh jugo. Very lively.

    Casa Azul — Frida Kahlo Museum book ahead Buy tickets online well in advance, they sell out. One person hangs with dog at a nearby cafe while the other goes through.
  • Jardín Hidalgo dog ✓ The central square. Street performers, outdoor cafes, very relaxed afternoon.
Day 5 Teotihuacán — Hot Air Balloon at Sunrise highlight Wednesday, April 8

The trip highlight. Book through Globo Aventura or Fly Me to the Moon — do it now.

    Dawn departure (~5:30am Uber) book ahead Balloons launch at sunrise. About 45 min flight over the pyramids. Surreal.
  • 🏺
    Walk the Pyramids of the Sun & Moon After the balloon, explore the site on foot. Climb the Pyramid of the Sun for the view. Back in the city by early afternoon.
  • 😴
    Afternoon rest You'll have earned it. Slow evening in Condesa.
🐾 Dog: cannot enter the pyramid site. Arrange a dog sitter or daycare for the day — there are several in Condesa.
Day 6 Xochimilco — Floating Canals Thursday, April 9

Ancient Aztec canal system. Other boats pull alongside selling food, drinks, and mariachi. Festive and uniquely Mexican.

    Trajinera boat ride (2–3 hours) dog ✓ Hire a flat-bottomed boat with a canopy. Drift through the canals. Dog can come.

    Mariachi boats They'll pull up and play for tips. Say yes.
  • 🏘️
    San Ángel stop on the way back Pretty colonial neighborhood. Good restaurants for a late lunch.
Day 7 Lucha Libre Night + Roma Friday, April 10

Slow morning, then the most fun evening of the trip.

  • Slow morning in Roma Norte dog ✓ Coffee shop culture, street art, Mercado Roma food hall for a late breakfast/lunch.

    Museo Soumaya (free) In Polanco. Incredible art collection from Rodin to Dalí in a wild-looking building.
  • 🤼
    Lucha Libre — Arena México don't miss Friday night show, starts ~8:30pm. Colorful, loud, theatrical. 100% family-friendly chaos. Buy tickets online. The kids will lose their minds.
Day 8 Departure Saturday, April 11

Head home full of tacos and good memories.

    Final walk in Parque México dog ✓ One last lap. The dog will be sad to leave.
  • 🛍️
    If late flight: Bazar del Sábado in San Ángel Saturday-only artisan market, open until ~5pm. Great for souvenirs.
  • ✈️
    Airport — MEX Allow extra time. Traffic can be unpredictable.
